Dr. Daniel Freilich announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate from Vermont (D) for the 2010 election, in Wilmington, VT, in October 2009. Daniel is a physician with specialization in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, a U.S. Navy Captain in the active Select Reserves with 13 years of Active Duty, and an Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery. His academic Navy medical career included operational and clinical medicine, teaching, and research, most recently at National Naval Medical Center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Naval Medical Research Center, and Uniformed Services University. He has been a leader in malaria, bioterrorism, and trauma/combat medicine research. Daniel completed residency at Fletcher Allen Health Care (UVM), practiced in Jeffersonville, attended at FAHC and NWMC (St. Albans), and was active in research at UVM. Daniel was inspired to run for the U.S. Senate because of a calling to try to help rectify loss of fair play in American governance and its social contract. The campaign platform focuses on four themes: equity in economic policy (progressive taxation; universal coverage with a single-payer health care system); equity in environmental and energy policy (green revolution); equity in U.S. effort to address world poverty (e.g., elimination of vaccine preventable illnesses); and enlightened security.Detailed information is available at www.danielfreilichforUSsenate.com
