His father was born in a log cabin and was called from the humblest rank in life to preside over our nation during the most momentous period of its history. One generation later, Robert Todd Lincoln, the only surviving child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln became Chairman of the Pullman Palace Car Company; the largest corporation in America at the turn of the 19th century. He built his Georgian Revival mansion in the scenic Vermont village of Manchester in 1905 and it became home to Lincoln descendants until 1975.
